Maureen Upton

I launched Inside ESG after more than 30 years in the field we now call Environmental-Social-Governance. It started in a Times Square cubicle doing PR for apparel manufacturers in Guatemala and chip makers in Japan, traversed courtrooms in Indonesia, public health crises across Africa, to ESG governance at the board level.

My 12 years of public board experience have been in mining and investment management. I make it a priority to pursue director education, holding both general and cybersecurity governance credentials.

After a stint with the world’s largest gold mining company, in 2006 I founded a sustainability consulting practice serving multinational corporations. I've advised C-suite executives on projects spanning 5 continents, doing business in 3 languages (English, Spanish and Portuguese), while traveling through some 34 countries to work with communities in the most remote corners of the globe.

My education includes an MBA in Finance and a Master of International Affairs in Economic Policy from Columbia University, and a BA in Philosophy from the University of California at Berkeley.
